Ariel Chan

Ariel Chan is a third-year PhD student in East Asian Linguistics in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures. Her research focuses on heritage language acquisition, examining the speech production and perception of Cantonese heritage speakers who grow up in the United States. Realizing the tremendous influence language has on the world, she is passionate about developing projects and initiatives that follow the goal of empowering minority language communities. In addition to research, she has launched a pilot Cantonese class with her advisor.
