Eleni Hioureas
Professor & Assistant Chair, English, SMC
Eleni Hioureas is an English literature and composition professor and the Assistant Chair of the English Department at Santa Monica College. She is also the faculty coordinator of the Basic Skills Writing Lab and leader of the Basic Skills English program there, specializing in teaching composition to educationally underrepresented students. In addition, as the English Department Lead Coordinator for the Basic Skills Financial Literacy Project, she collaborates with faculty to develop curriculum that promotes the cultivation of personal finance skills. Eleni is actively involved in many committees, including one that seeks to improve instructional support for students. She also developed and led a study abroad program to Greece in which she taught Greek literature. Eleni has a Master’s degree in Modern Literature from the University of York in England and a Bachelor’s degree in American Literature from UCLA with minors in Political Science and Classics.
