Elliott Piros is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Classics at UCLA. He is currently completing a dissertation on the Hispano-Roman poet Martial, a prolific writer of epigrams, and Roman consumer culture in the first and second centuries CE. Other research interests include the Imperial Roman economy, especially resource and surplus extraction, depictions of labor and production processes in visual and textual media, and the role of commercial activity in Roman social life. He teaches Latin at UCLA and other courses offered through the Department of Classics.
