Interrupting Bias in Classroom Conversations

This workshop explores how various forms of bias impact class dynamics and discussions, and helps instructors develop knowledge and skills for interrupting microaggressions and bias and managing hot moments in the classroom. Participants practice recognizing intent versus impact, as well as a variety of concrete tools for troubleshooting friction in the classroom–and walk away with a deeper understanding of how bias affects both students and instructors. This workshop was developed by the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and will be jointly facilitated by CAT and EPIC staff.

When: Thursday, October 13 at 12:00 to 2:00 PM. Lunch will be available to pick up at 11:30 am at the Powell courtyard.

Where: Powell 186. Enter the building from the east (the doors facing Kaplan) or  the south (the doors facing Physics and Astronomy and Moore Halls).
