Classroom Design and Inclusivity
Tuesday, April 30, 4-6pm
Lydeen Library (Rolfe Hall 4302)
How does the spatial design of classrooms affect the inclusiveness of the classroom environment? How do we make, design, and deliver classes that are as engaging and inclusive as possible when they consist of unusually large classes, are set at un-ideal hours of the day or have a fixed/inflexible seating arrangement? What are some techniques that help activate all voices in the classroom? Conversely, what are some impediments that inherently stop all voices from being activated? What are some quick and effective techniques to increase participation?
The mission of EPIC Inclusive Gatherings is to provide an open space for educators to learn about issues of inclusivity and their related best pedagogical practices. After a brief talk by an invited speaker, professors will participate in an open, productive, and constructive conversation related to the specific topic related to inclusivity.
